Nintendo has revealed that tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct entirely dedicated to Mario Kart World will be 15 minutes in length, starting at 6 AM PT – that’s 9 AM ET, 2 PM BST or 3 PM CEST. That’s shorter than the average 30 minute runtime of other Nintendo Directs dedicated to certain titles such as the Switch’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Splatoon 3 Direct events. However, it’s around the same length as other big Nintendo Directs such as the 14 minutes for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom back in 2023.
We don’t know exactly what to expect we’ll see in the Mario Kart World Direct. We went hands-on with the game over this past weekend in London, and the things we’ve already seen are pretty great. The game is priced $10 above the average $70 retail price of big-budget games, and Nintendo have held strong that the price is based on the value and scale of what they’re offering. With an entire dedicated Nintendo Direct, we wouldn’t be surprised if Mario Kart World has a trick up its sleeve to try and solidify itself as an $80 title.
As for what that surprise could be, again we aren’t sure. Some eagle-eyed fans on social media noticed that the game’s map is only one continent on the globe in the Mario Kart World logo, prompting speculation perhaps the game costs so much because it will be even bigger than anticipated. Perhaps instead there could be some kind of campaign mode, we just don’t know. But we will tomorrow!
