Tropico 6 Free This Weekend For Steam Users; New DLC Released

Kalypso Media’s Tropico series has given players numerous opportunities to put on the fancy hat of “Presidente por vida” of banana republic/despot sandbox Tropico, crushing rebels and skimming from the country’s GDP while smoking fine cigars and sipping excellent rum. And they’re giving Steam users a sweetheart deal to try out the latest entry in the series, Tropico 6,  this weekend.

Are they doing it purely out of the goodness of their hearts? A virtual humanitarian aid mission? Hardly. This particular free weekend coincides with the release of the new “Lobbyistico” DLC. The DLC pack introduces a new mechanic modeling corruption and its effects on the economy and happiness of Tropico’s inhabitants.

Three new buildings will help create, or cover-up, corruption in the islands. The El Presidente Club will have plenty of smoky back rooms for making deals with various lobbyists representing different commercial interests.

Meanwhile, the Official Residence will let players invite faction leaders to sleepover and trade favors over brunch. And if things get too out of hand, the Corruption Agency will do a most thorough investigation, its dogged investigators doubtlessly shocked to discover breathtaking displays of venality on the part of public servants.

There’s no word if reports will be published or conveniently misfiled. Such activities can lead to the traits of “Polarizing” or “All For The Folk” being added. Additionally, the DLC will add three new songs to the game’s soundtrack as well as new customization options for the Presidential Palace.

The free weekend will last until 1 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, at which point players will be given the option to buy the game and the Lobbyistico DLC, along with previously released DLC packs. During this time, Kalypso is putting Tropico 6 on sale for 40% off, with the Lobbyistico DLC also being discounted at 15%. If you haven’t had the chance to play before, now might be a good time.
