It may have had a controversial build up to its release, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows has certainly proven to be a popular entry amongst the fans. Ubisoft just announced on its social media pages that the Japanese-themed entry in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series has crossed 5 million players across all platforms since it launched on March 20.
This is specifically referring to “players” in a broad sense, so we still don’t have any concrete measurements of how many opted to purchase the game, compared to just subscribing to Ubisoft’s subscription service and playing the game with that membership. Both would count as a player, but whatever the financial numbers are, Ubisoft seems to be happy with the performance.

We last had an update on the game’s commercial performance the week after the game released, with Assassin’s Creed Shadows having three million players as we reported on March 27. That means that in the following four months, the game reached an additional two million players.
There’s lots more to come for Assassin’s Creed Shadows though, so the player count is sure to get higher. There has already been plenty of updates to Assassin’s Creed Shadows post-launch adding new features like new quest content, a new difficulty mode, improvements to parkour and more. There’s also an upcoming DLC expansion titled Claws of Awaji, which will be free to those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows or paid if you didn’t.
