Famitsu: Pikmin 1+2 Overtake Pikmin 4, Lies Of P Debuts

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers September 18 – 24, as a new Pikmin release takes the top spot over Pikmin 4. The physical release of Pikmin 1+2 in Japan sold almost 24,000 copies, allowing it to take first place on the charts, pushing the latest entry in the franchise, Pikmin 4, to second place.

It’s a big year for the Pikmin series, with the huge sales of Pikmin 4 making it become something of a chart juggernaut in recent weeks. The physical release of Pikmin 1+2 managing to overtake this week shows us there’s a lot of demand for the Pikmin in Japan, a bright sign for the franchise’s future.

At third place this week is the debut of Lies of P, a dark fantasy soulslike retelling of the classic Pinocchio story, with its PS5 release selling almost 10,000 copies in its first week. Lies of P and Pikmin 1+2 are the only new releases on the chart this week, with the rest being filled by evergreen Switch titles, with last week’s new release Super Bomberman R 2 slipping to the bottom of the chart.
