Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Update Part 2 Adds Fireworks and Dreams

Earlier in June, Animal Crossing: New Horizons had the first part of its summer update, which added swimming and diving into the game. Finally, the second part of this update is coming at the end of July. This part of the update will add events for August, cloud backup for save data, and visiting other towns in dreams.

August in Animal Crossing will bring about weekly firework shows on Sundays. Firework shows are not a new part of the Animal Crossing series, but there will be some additions to the event that is new to this installment. First, during the festivities, Crazy Redd will have a booth with a raffle where you can win interactable items like sparkler sticks or bubble blowers. For the fireworks themselves, there will be some standard designs, but players will be able to create custom firework designs for the first time in series history.

The second part of the update adds dreaming into the game. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, players were able to visit the Dream Suite to visit random towns with the help of a tapir called Luna. The Dream Suite is not returning, but instead, players will be able to meet with Luna from the beds in their own homes.

This will let players explore randomly selected towns of strangers all over the world. The announcement trailer did not say how players could submit their towns to be available in dreams. Players will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to visit other towns in dreams.

The final part of the update is Island Backup and Restoration Services; a feature promised to be coming later at the game’s launch. This is another service for Nintendo Switch Online users, and lets them back up their town data online and recover the data in case the data gets lost. Transferring saved data between consoles will also be available through this service later this year.

All these new features will be available through a free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons available on Thursday, July 30, 2020. The end of the trailer also teases that the next free update will be a fall-themed update featuring Jack, the pumpkin-headed king of Animal Crossing Halloween. No release date for the next update was provided.
