Many gaming fans will surely remember the event that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 way back in 2020. The launch was one of the worst in gaming history, with its buggy performance so dire it even resulted in Sony delisting the game from the official PlayStation Store and refunding purchases of the title. Despite this, the Cyberpunk team at CD Projekt Red continued to put much love into the game through many updates and, after four years, Cyberpunk 2077 has an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ review score on Steam.
To be specific, the ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating comes from over 12,000 recent reviews, with 95% of them being positive responses acknowledging Cyberpunk 2077‘s flawed past and the journey it’s been on since then. There’s still a while to go until the all-time review score rises, with 84% of over 715,000 reviews being positive, but one step at a time. The team is already celebrating over on X (formerly Twitter), with the game’s quest director saying he “never dreamt” this point would be reached.
The change in public perception towards Cyberpunk 2077 was no easy feat, with the game only just receiving the ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ score now after a popular anime series, a Fortnite crossover, a massive DLC expansion, surprise feature updates and more to make the world of Night City feel more alive than ever. It’s not just critical success the game has found, as Cyberpunk 2077 crossed 30 million copies sold as of November 2024 too, which also locked in a currently in development sequel game.
