In the final part of the main story quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s “The Remembering” update, you must journey into the Forgotten’s stronghold, the Dark Castle. Unfortunately, making your way to the top floor for your final showdown with the Forgotten will be no easy task. Along the way you will encounter several locked doors, each requiring you to solve a puzzle to pass through. This guide will help you solve each of these puzzles with ease and finally confront the Forgotten and restore the Orb of Remembrance to Dreamlight Valley.
First Door: The Forgotten’s Wings And Crown
Enter the Dark Castle and walk up to the first door. You will find that these doors are sentient, having been enchanted by the Forgotten, and have minds of their own! Talk to the door and try to convince it that you are the Forgotten – unfortunately, it doesn’t quite believe you. You will have to learn more about the Forgotten in order to trick it.
Clear the Night Thorns around the door until a Memory orb appears. Interact with the Memory to learn that the Forgotten always wore wings and a crown when interacting with the door. You have two options to solve this:
- Clear all Night Thorns on both the left and right sides of the door to find two cabinets, one containing the Cardboard Wings and the other the Cardboard Crown. Wear those and interact with the door.
- Wear the Onyx Crown (awarded when reaching level 40) along with either the Thorny Wings (awarded when reaching Level 38) or the Raven Wings (a limited-time reward accessible during the Halloween season’s Villains Star Path) and interact with the door.
Either option will result in the door recognizing you as the Forgotten. Pass through the door and move to the second floor of the Dark Castle.
Second Door: Doorine’s Favorite Meal
On the second floor, you will find a series of ingredients and a cooking station. Read the note next to the cooking station to learn that this door (named Doorine) is very picky – she wants a well-seasoned but garlic-free meal made only with ingredients from the Dark Castle.
From the available ingredients, pick up one Dark Castle Lettuce, one Dreamlight Salt, and one Thorn Sprout. Combine them at the cooking station to receive a Night Thorn Sprout Salad. Place the salad next to Doorine’s door, and she will open for you. Pass through and move on to the third floor of the Dark Castle.
Third Door: Mechanical Eye Puzzle
Upon reaching the third floor, you will find that there is no door at all! Instead, there is only an empty door frame. Fortunately, you are not totally stuck – there is still a way to progress to the next floor of the Castle.
Look for a nearby note and learn that it mentions using a special type of mechanical eye. In this case, it doesn’t mean wearing a particular pair of glasses or a special face mask – you just need to use your camera to take a picture of the door frame! This will cause the door to appear and allow you to move on to the fourth floor.
Fourth Door: Melt The Key
The fourth floor of the Dark Castle is covered with ice and the door is locked. Unfortunately, the key you need to get is frozen in a large block of ice too strong for any of your Royal Tools to handle. Luckily, there are several Torches scattered around, all frozen within much smaller and more manageable blocks of ice.
Use your Royal Pickaxe to break the ice and free all four torches: the Dawn Torch, Noon Torch, Dusk Torch, and Night Torch. Now, place each of the Torches in the correct slots in the center of the room surrounding the large block of ice. The correct placement can be found by matching each Torch’s name with the symbol drawn next to the slot. The correct order is as follows:
- Image of a rising sun – Dawn Torch
- Image of a full sun – Noon Torch
- Image of a setting sun – Dusk Torch
- Image of a moon – Night Torch
Once all four Torches have been correctly placed, the large block of ice will melt and you can grab the Dark Castle Key from inside using your Fishing Rod. Use that key to open the door and proceed to the top floor of the Dark Castle for your final showdown with the Forgotten.
Confronting The Forgotten
IMPORTANT: Before confronting the Forgotten, pick up the Orb of Unity found lying on the ground next to the door. This item will be important in a later update to Disney Dreamlight Valley. While you can return to collect this item later, you will have to re-climb the Dark Castle to do so, so it is best to grab it now.
Approach the Forgotten and interact with them to view a short cutscene. The Forgotten will plunge you both into a black void filled with items from your shared memories, each marked with a pillar of light. You will have to visit each location in order, focus your magic, and discuss the associated relic (from the previous Forgotten Relics quest) with the Forgotten. The correct order is:
- Sandbox – Discuss Beach Toys relic
- Bed – Talk about the Blanket relic
- Desk – Remember the Drawing relic
- Bookshelf – Find out about the Storybook relic
Once all four relics have been remembered, interact with the Forgotten one last time. This time, you will view a major cutscene as the Forgotten accepts their past and decides to return to Dreamlight Valley. Following this, you will be able to interact with the Forgotten around the Valley and can revisit the Dark Castle if needed via the portal in the Plaza.
“The Remembering” main quest is almost done, but there’s one last task you need to complete to truly restore (temporary) peace to the Valley!
Final Step: Restore The Orb
After viewing the final cutscene with the Forgotten, the Orb of Remembrance will appear in your inventory. Head to the Forgotten Lands and place the Orb of Remembrance in its pillar. Unfortunately, the Forgotten Lands still look pretty grim, filled with thorns and raging fires, but you can bond with the Fairy Godmother and complete her Friendship Quests to help beautify the area.
That’s all for the main quests in the Remembering update in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Although the Forgotten has been redeemed, the game’s story is far from over – after viewing the game’s (current) end credits, you can witness a brief cutscene showing the silhouette of a certain sinister villain from Agrabah.
