Disney Dreamlight Valley: How To Brew Potatoes Into Potions

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s latest secret quest is rather different than anything players have encountered before. Instead of helping Merlin restore the Valley’s magic or locating new Disney and Pixar characters to move in, this well-hidden quest involves finding multiple colorful potatoes hidden around the Valley and brewing them into potions. This handy guide will cover what to do once you’ve found the Golden, Red, Orange, Blue, Purple, and Green Potatoes and how to make them into their respective potions. (If you haven’t found the potatoes themselves, don’t worry – we’ve got a guide for that too!)

Once you have all six Potions, you can combine them into a mystical Rainbow Potion and earn a special, unique reward – a friend to accompany you in your adventures throughout Disney Dreamlight Valley. So check out this guide and get started!

How To Brew The Gleaming Gold Potion

The Gleaming Gold Potion is made from the Golden Potato, which is unlocked by inputting a special code into the game’s menu.

With the Golden Potato in your inventory, head to Merlin’s house. On the wizard’s desk is a book showing a potato next to a strange trapezoid – a Transfiguration Stone. You will need to travel to the most mystical locations in the Valley to find a series of Transfiguration Stones to use with the Golden Potato.

Head to the first of the Valley’s many secret locations – the Mystical Cave on Dazzle Beach. (If you do not yet have access to the Mystical Cave, you will need to progress the main story plot through the quest “With Great Power” to open it.) Inside the cave, you will find a Transfiguration Stone next to the puzzle you had to plant crops to solve. Place the Potato onto the stone to transform it into the Golden Carrot.

Next, head up to the Forest of Valor biome and enter Elsa’s Ice Cave. (To gain access to this, you need to have completed the quests in the Frozen Realm and invited Elsa to move to Dreamlight Valley.) The second Transfiguration Stone is on Elsa’s ice table. Placing the Golden Carrot there transforms it into the Golden Crab.

Next, go to the source of all magic in the Valley – Dream Castle itself. (Again, you have to complete the main quest The Dream Castle to access this area.) Head up to the top floor where the Fountain is located. A Transfiguration Stone on the banister next to the Fountain will turn your Golden Crab into a Golden Night Thorn.

Finally, return to Merlin’s house. A new Transfiguration Stone will be sitting on his desk next to the book. Place the Golden Night Thorn here to receive the Gleaming Gold Potion.

How To Brew The Raging Red Potion

The Raging Red Potion is brewed from the Red Potato, which is found inside the house of Remy, the little chef from Ratatouille.

Because the Red Potato is found in Remy’s house, of course, what you need to do to make it into a potion is cook it – but what recipe? This is one we originally had to discover using trial and error, combining red ingredients with ingredients related to Remy. (Fortunately, if you try to cook the wrong recipe, Remy won’t let you, so you can’t accidentally lose the Red Potato.) Luckily, you will not need to guess the recipe, as we have provided it here!

There are four ingredients you will need to cook alongside the Red Potato. These are:

• Raspberry – harvested from bushes in the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow biomes
• Chili Pepper – harvested from seeds purchased at Goofy’s Stall in the Sunlit Plateau. (Some days, Goofy may also sell pre-grown Chili Peppers)

• Lobster – fished from gold bubbles in the Glade of Trust (can also be randomly caught by Moana via Moana’s Boat)
• Slush Ice – purchased from Chez Remy for 150 Gold after completing Remy’s friendship quest “The Unknown Flavor”

Use the cooking station at Chez Remy to combine the Raspberry, Chili Pepper, Lobster, Slush Ice, and Red Potato to make the Icy-Red Stew… Yuck (yup, that’s the real name of the item!) The Stew’s description says “I wonder what Anton Ego would think of this,” which provides a hint as to what you need to do with this ingredient. Head to the Ratatouille Realm inside Dream Castle and place the Stew in the serving hatch to receive the Raging Red Potion in exchange.

How To Brew The Electrifying Orange Potion

The Electrifying Orange Potion is brewed from the Orange Potato, which is found by collecting 20 Pebbles in Dream Castle and combining them at a Crafting Station.

Collect 15 pieces of Sand from breaking rocks in Dazzle Beach and 3 pieces of Coal from mining in any Biome. Combine these to create 3 pieces of Glass at any Crafting station. Then, using the three Glass, create an Empty Vial.

Finally, combine the Empty Vial with the Orange Potato to make the Electrifying Orange Potion. (This recipe can be found under the Functional Items tab in the Crafting Station menu.)

How To Brew The Brilliant Blue Potion

The Brilliant Blue Potion is brewed from the Blue Potato, which is found inside the home of the sea witch Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

Because it’s connected to Ursula, known for her deadly concoctions, this quest involves combining items and brewing them into a potent potion. Unfortunately, as Ursula is a villain, she will not provide any clues about where you need to go to find the proper items to mix with the Blue Potato. (The items are hidden in locations connected to water and magic, like Ursula herself is.) Thankfully, that’s what this guide is here for!

With the Blue Potato in your inventory, head to the Dream Castle and from there to Moana’s Realm. Walk straight until you reach the gap between two palm trees next to the water. If you have the Blue Potato in your possession, there will be an invisible bridge that lets you walk on water. Follow the invisible path past the rocks until you reach a tiny island. Next to the tallest rock on this small island, you will find a Blue Shell. Pick it up and add it to your inventory!

Next, go to Dazzle Beach and board the raft moored there. This will take you to the isolated island where Ariel was hiding to escape the Forgetting. (If you have not completed Ariel’s quests and had her move back to Dreamlight Valley, she will still be there.) Once again, if you have the Blue Potato, you will be able to walk on water. Head to the sand spit at the edge of the island and walk across the water to the small sandy inlet you can see. On the ground in the inlet next to some rocks is the Blue Starfish, which you can pick up.

Take the boat back to Dazzle Beach and head into the Mystical Cave, which you previously visited while crafting the Golden Potion. Head all the way to the very bottom of the cave, where there is a pool of water that you can walk across if you are holding the Blue Potato. Cross the pool to find the Blue Book hidden behind a stone pillar. Be sure to add it to your growing collection of magical blue objects!

Finally, travel to the Sunlit Plateau biome and visit the Vitalys Mines. (In order to unlock the Mines, you need to first free Scar from the Elephant Graveyard in the Plateau.) Head right, cross the underground river, and follow the path until you come to a fork with a mine cart track leading to the left. Follow the track to the left until it abruptly ends at a chasm. Turn left to see a Blue Gem stuck in the wall near an abandoned mine cart. Cross the gap – again, you can walk across gaps with the aid of the Blue Potato – and grab the Gem.

Return to the main path in the Mines and follow it to the next fork. Head right at this fork – if you find yourself crossing a bridge over a chasm, you’ve gone too far! – and look for a patch of glowing mushrooms on the wall of the mine. On the ground near the mushrooms will be a small pool of water. Approach the pool and an “Interact” prompt will appear. Drop all five items – Blue Potato, Blue Shell, Blue Starfish, Blue Book, and Blue Gem – into the pool to receive the Brilliant Blue Potion in return.

How To Brew The Royal Purple Potion

The Purple Potato is one of the most time-intensive Potatoes to find, so, fortunately, brewing it into a Potion is fairly simple. All you need to do is combine the Purple Potato with an Empty Vial at any Crafting Station in the Valley. You can make an Empty Vial from three pieces of Glass. Glass can either be crafted from Sand harvested on Dazzle Beach or purchased from Kristoff’s Stall. Once you have combined the Empty Vial and the Purple Potato, you will receive the Royal Purple Potion.

How To Brew The Crystalline Green Potion

Brewing the final potion in Disney Dreamlight Valley requires making use of a skill that has not yet had its chance to shine in the Potato quest line: Fishing. You will need to use your fishing line to catch 16 Emerald Bottles located in bodies of water around the Valley.

Emerald Bottles can be identified by their corks bobbing on top of the water. However, due to their small size and the presence of obstacles like lily pads or cattails, some of the Emerald Bottles can be difficult to notice. You will know that you are catching an Emerald Bottle if the ripples around your fishing rod turn orange once you have cast your line.

The sixteen Emerald Bottles are located in the following places:

• In the southern corner of the largest pond in the Peaceful Meadow

• In the northernmost of the two small ponds in the Peaceful Meadow (the pond closest to the Plaza entrance)

• At the end of Dazzle Beach closest to the Forest of Valor, near the cave where Ursula was trapped

• On the island next to Skull Rock, on the side nearest the Dazzle Beach docks

• On the far side of the same island, looking out towards the open sea

• In the river bisecting Dazzle Beach, on the side of the bridge facing the Glade of Trust

• Next to the rocks at the very edge of Dazzle Beach, close to the Glade of Trust entrance

• In the large pool of water in the Glade of Trust, on the far side closest to the Sunlit Plateau

• Near the southern rock bridge in the Glade of Trust, at the bottom right “corner” of the square of rivers

• At the bottom left “corner” of the square of rivers in the Glade of Trust, south of the bridge

• In the bottom-right small pool in the Glade of Trust (the pool nearest the ocean)

• In the pool near the Ice Cave in the Forest of Valor, just north of the bridge

• In the river in the Frosted Heights, near where the river curves on the north side

• Where the river curves in the Sunlit Plateau, on the side furthest from the Plaza entrance

• In the bottom corner of the large pool in the Sunlit Plateau

• In the northernmost (furthest from entrances) pool in the Forgotten Lands

In your inventory, click on each Emerald Bottle individually to turn it into a set of Emerald Slivers. Then, head to the nearest Crafting Station and combine all of the Emerald Slivers together to create the Jade Crystal. Finally, combine the Jade Crystal with the Green Potato and an Empty Vial (made from three pieces of Glass, either crafted from Sand or purchased from Kristoff’s Stall) to make the Crystalline Green Potion.

How To Unlock The Rainbow Fox Companion

At the Crafting Station, combine the Brilliant Blue Potion, Crystalline Green Potion, Electrifying Orange Potion, Gleaming Gold Potion, Raging Red Potion, and Royal Purple Potion to make the Rainbow Potion. Then, head to the Dark Castle. If you have not unlocked the Dark Castle, you will need to talk to the Fairy Godmother to complete the “Miracles Take Time” and “Forgotten Relics” quest.

Inside the Dark Castle, you will be prompted to pass through the locked doors to continue the main quest. Instead, turn right to find a bedroom area clogged with Night Thorns and various furniture. (You may need to clear out some Night Thorns to pass through here.) In this area is a stone statue of a fox. Apply the Rainbow Potion to the statue to turn it into a Rainbow Fox. This adorable critter will be added to your Companions menu, and you can have it accompany you on your adventures throughout the Valley!
