Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers July 24 – 30, as Pikmin 4 has a second-week sales drop of 71%. After last week’s series-best 401,000 units sold, Pikmin 4 went on to sell an additional 115,000 copies. This puts it at a considerable half a million physical sales total in Japan alone.
Whilst this is a larger fall than past second week sales in the franchise, such as Pikmin 3‘s 60% sales drop in 2013, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe‘s 70% drop in 2020, this is to be somewhat expected due to its larger starting point. Despite the sales drop, Pikmin 4 has still sold more than both Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe combined in their second weeks on sale.
Elsewhere on the chart, there were three newly released titles that managed to secure a place amongst the best-selling of the week. These include the charming adventure game Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Vacation, the action RPG Crymachina, which managed to chart on two platforms, and Disney Illusion Island, a new platforming game from Disney.
