Ghostwire: Tokyo: How Offering Boxes Work

Those who are familiar with Japanese lore – and especially folklore – will find a lot to love in Ghostwire: Tokyo. However, for the uninitiated who simply came for a fun survival horror romp with some spooky ghosts and cool magic powers, some of the game’s core mechanics might not make much sense. That’s where we come in!

Offering Boxes are a concept that don’t really exist in the West, but they are simple enough to understand. When visiting a shrine, people donate some money – usually small coins – as an offering before making a prayer. So, why would there be Offering Boxes in a game like Ghostwire: Tokyo? They actually serve an important function for any completionists out there. Check out GameLuster’s helpful guide to learn more!

How Offering Boxes Work In Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo offering

Offering Boxes, just like their real-world counterparts, exist at many, but not all, Torii Gates located around the map in Ghostwire: Tokyo. When you approach, you are prompted to pray at the Box, at which point you can choose from two options: to make a small or large donation of 100 or 500 Meika respectively. This will obviously drain a bit of your cash, but the rewards are more than worth it.

Depending on how much money you donate, you will be given different choices on what to pray for. These options can include restoring some health or SP at lower offerings, but higher ones can reveal the location of collectibles in the area, or even Jizo Statues, Tanuki, and other valuable treasures. Whichever one you pick will be granted just like magic!

This can’t be abused too much. The boxes will eventually stop offering to show you the location of collectibles after a certain number of prayers, so don’t get too greedy with your donations!
