Johnny Silverhand Won’t Let You Play Cyberpunk 2077 Early

With only three days to go until the long-awaited release of CD Projekt RED’s futuristic open world game Cyberpunk 2077, some fans have started to get impatient. The game is currently available for pre-loading via GOG Galaxy and, of course, a number of players have attempted to launch and play the title prior to its official release date.

However, it seems that CD Projekt fully anticipated these attempts, and inserted quite the cheeky Easter egg for impatient fans to discover. Should you try to launch your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 early, you will find yourself not in the sprawling metropolis of Night City but, instead, in a rather gross-looking landfill stuffed with trash. Definitely not what you’re hoping to see, especially since trailers have showed off just how expansive Night City is.

But that’s not all! Upon waking up in this landfill, you’ll hear a line from central character Johnny Silverhand, as voiced by actor Keanu Reeves. Johnny will tell you to “Go back to sleep, Samurai! It’s not December 10th yet!” “Samurai,” of course, refers to Johnny’s legendary chrome rock band of the same name, which will be portrayed in Cyberpunk 2077 by real life punk band Refused.

Unfortunately, Johnny’s command seems to be pretty absolute. As far as we know, clever players haven’t found a way to get past the landfill screen and actually play the game early. Luckily, there are only a few days left until players will be able to officially enter Night City without any warnings or admonitions from Johnny.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on December 10 for a number of platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC. Upgrades to the next generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles will also be available.
