More New Pokémon Snap Details Revealed

Today’s “Pokémon Present” event revealed a ton of exciting news for fans of the creature-catching series. As Pokémon is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2021, there are lots of new games planned for this year. One of these is New Pokémon Snap, a re-imagined version of the classic photography game which involved snapping pics of adorable ‘mons in their natural habitat.

Taking place in the Lental region, New Pokémon Snap sees the player teaming up with Professor Mirror and his assistants Rita and Phil to fill out their Photodex with the many types of Pokémon appearing throughout the region. Today’s new trailer revealed features including the ability to lure out Pokémon by tossing delicious fluff-fruit, the ability to travel underwater to observe species such as Mantine and Chinchou, and the ability to use orbs created by the Professor to allow any Pokémon to experience the strange glowing phenomenon found only in the Lental region.

Once you’ve taken your photos, you’ll be able to edit them by adding stickers and frames inspired by the Japanese phenomenon of purikura, or photo decoration. If you’ve got a Nintendo account and Switch Online membership, you can then share them with your friends. Then, you can view your friends’ photos to get inspiration for future photos of your own. Capture rare behavior such as a dancing Hoothoot or hopping Venusaur to earn a four-star rating when you share your photos with the Professor!

The trailer also ended with quite the special reveal indeed: the mythical Pokémon Celebi will be making an appearance in New Pokémon Snap. It didn’t provide any hints regarding where Celebi will appear or how to take its picture, but we will hopefully find out soon when the game launches in just a few months.

New Pokémon Snap will debut for the Nintendo Switch on April 30, 2021. Pre-orders are available now.
