Complete These Quests First

Proof of Guilt

The Proof of Justice marks the third stage of an optional chain of side quests that players can complete in Octopath Traveler 2, following their completion of the Proof of Innocence and Proof of Guilt side story. This quest is intense as Judge Astell of the Timberain Court was murdered, and everyone suspects the courtroom guard, Meylan. It’s your job to use your sleuthing skills to uncover the truth and figure out who really committed this heinous crime. It’s a challenging but worthwhile mission that takes you deeper into the game – plus, it offers valuable rewards!

Courtroom

Once the quests “Proof of Innocence” and “Proof of Guilt” have been completed, a swift return to the courthouse is in order. Inside, you can find Meylan on the stand. He’s being charged with the homicide of Judge Astell. It’s shocking! No one can imagine Meylan as a murderer.

Talk to spectators to collect pertinent data, followed by a dialogue with the clerk. The clerk will not supply any information directly; however, her dialogue may enable further inquiry. A closer look into Meylan’s life would reveal that he was raised by his aunt in the poorer neighborhoods of New Delsta. Castti’s Inquire and Osvald’s Scrutinize are recommended to get needed information from spectators.

Next, talk to the Court Reporter on the right. He will explain that, hypothetically, if he were the killer, he would dispose of the evidence by throwing the weapon into a lake. It would later make it downstream along the Southern Timberain Trail and eventually end up in the ocean.

Stolen Sword

Now that you have gained two valuable pieces of information, head to the Southern Timberan Trail first. It is a Level 45 area populated by strong monsters, so you must be prepared. After navigating across the bridge and heading slightly north, you’ll reach the pier, which grants access to cross the river. Here you will find a hidden item near the waterfall, signified by its recognizable blue blinking. Cross the lake and collect the murder weapon, Stolen Sword.

Dour Elderly Woman

Once you get that, head to New Delsta in the Brightlands,, then go to the New Delsta Backstreets area and locate the Dour Elderly Woman, aunt of Meylan. Once found, interact with her, and she will tell you that she was raising Meylan until he left a decade ago in search of vengeance for his parents. You need to Scrutinize her with Osvald, Inquire her with Castti, Coerce her with Temenos, or Bribe her with Hikari to get this additional information.

After acquiring all relevant data from the Dour Elderly Woman, it’s time to go back to Timberrain Court and report your findings to the Spectator. When Meylan is deemed guilty of all charges, a life sentence will be given, and you will receive a reward of 30,000 leaves, a Fortifying Nut, and a Magic Nut for your diligent efforts.
