The indie game scene is always pushing boundaries of what we’ve come to expect from genre conventions, and there is no better example than One Btn Bosses, the upcoming PC title from Midnight Munchies which is going to be seeing a Steam release. This was shown off with a new trailer that was shared by IGN as seen below. As its name would imply, you will fight bosses and defeat them with one button.
Not much is known about Midnight Munchies, the studio behind One Btn Bosses, as this small development team is really only composed of three indie devs known as Fer, Brin and Jonas, who have previously released other arcade-style titles on itch.io, making this their first official release. As for the game itself, players will take part in the Galactico Games, where they will have to face off against challenging bosses with a catch. Unlike in other titles, players just have to press one button – but there’s still more to it than that. The longer players wait to press the button, the faster their spaceship will move, and stronger their attacks against the boss will become. Despite its relatively simple premise, there’s still a lot of challenge and players will need to plan accordingly if they want to get far in the Galactico Games!
This is definitely a change from what we’ve come to expect from boss-rush style games, and this will hopefully offer players a unique experience in its relatively short run-time. From what information we know, One Btn Bosses will give players a campaign that will be roughly four hours long. However, players will also be given a chance to play through an infinite Roguelite mode that will test to see just how long players can last against the game’s various bosses. There will also be a competitive element to the game, as there will be an in-game leaderboard that will have players facing off against their friends for the top spot.
Players will also have the option to customize their ships as well as unlock new upgrades for their ship’s weaponry. An important note is that Midnight Munchies is ensuring that One Btn Bosses will be as accessible as possible, meaning the game will feature options to change up certain stats of enemies. This will allow players to play at their own pace and adjust enemy attack speed, enemy health and plenty more to suit their play style. If you are interested in checking out the game, you will be glad to know that One Btn Bosses is currently available to wishlist on Steam. Alternatively, you can check out the One Btn Bosses demo on itch.io or NewGrounds.
