Phasmophobia Update Adds Two New Ghost Types and More

A recent beta update to Phasmophobia has now been added to the main build, bringing with it two new types of ghost, a new map, and a whole host of fixes and changes to make the game a smoother experience.

The two new additions to the ghost roster are Yokai, supernatural monsters from Japanese folklore, and Hantu, spirits and demons from Malay and Indonesian folklore. The details of how these new ghosts will play or what players will have to do to identify them haven’t been revealed as part of the update notes, but according to one redditor’s access to the official Trello account, Yokai will be attracted to the players’ voices and Hantu will become more or less aggressive according to the weather. By the looks of it, players will be relying on finding Ghost Orbs and Ghost Writing more too, at least for now, as these new spirits will have a 3x higher spawn rate until the next update.

The new map is a small house called Willow Street House, with a unique lack of closets or lockers for the players to hide in. Instead, this house is designed around the idea of hiding behind furniture, which could send players hiding behind the sofa both in-game and out of it!

Some smaller, but equally powerful changes have also been made to the ghosts’ behaviour, which will see increased activity in the form of opening and closing doors and ghosts interacting with objects. Demons now have an increased chance to hunt, and there’s now a small chance that ghosts can wander much further from their designated rooms. Finally, if a ghost works out where you’re hiding because it can hear you, it’s not just going to walk past any more…

The full list of changes and fixes can be found in the update report, and the Trello account is publicly available for those who want to keep on top of new plans from the newly expanded dev team.

Phasmophobia is available on PC.
