Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC To Introduce New Academy, Rivals, Legendary Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero” DLC was announced earlier this year, but was shown off only briefly. The June 21 Nintendo Direct livestream event remained relatively cagey, but did let slip a few more details about the anticipated DLC. Releasing in two parts, “The Teal Mask” and “The Indigo Disk,” in Fall and Winter 2023, the DLC will introduce new areas of the Paldea region, new characters to befriend and battle, and mysterious new Legendary Pokemon.

“The Teal Mask” is the first part of the DLC, and is planned for a Fall 2023 release. It will see the protagonist journeying to the country town of Kitakami to participate in the Festival of Masks. Inspired by classic Japanese summertime festivals, the Festival of Masks will feature food, games, and, best of all, new clothing for the player character to wear! Fans who were disappointed by the lack of non-school uniform options in the base game will be thrilled by this addition.

While participating in the Festival of Masks, the player character can learn about and interact with the Loyal Three, a group of three Pokemon based on the pheasant, monkey, and dog from the legend of Momotaro. In addition, a mysterious oni (demon)-inspired Pokemon is lurking hidden in the background. Who is this strange oni, and what is the true nature of the “Teal Mask” they wear? It is likely this will remain a mystery until the first part of the DLC releases later this year.

Moving from traditional to high-tech, the Indigo Disk will see players journeying to Blueberry Academy, a futuristic school located on a platform in the middle of the ocean. In addition to headmaster Cyrano, there will be new students and teachers for the player to meet – and battle! Plus, Blueberry Academy introduces an underwater area called the Terarium, which features a variety of artificial biomes where different Pokemon can live and thrive. Of course, another Legendary Pokemon is lurking as well – a turtle-like creature who may have a mysterious connection to the Terastal Phenomenon found in the Paldea Region.

Both sets of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC are currently available for pre-purchase. In addition, a celebratory tie-in event will be held in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, featuring a variety of valuable rewards and limited-time Tera Raids against Gimmighoul in its Chest Form. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Gimmighoul!
