SteamWorld Build Takes The Franchise In A City-Building Direction

Fans of the SteamWorld games were treated to some exciting news today – the announcement of its next instalment, SteamWorld Build. The publisher, Thunderful Games, has taken this series through many genres, including the original SteamWorld Dig which was a platform mining adventure, to Steamworld Heist, a pirate-filled tactical turn-based shootout. The most recent series entry was SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamesh, which saw the series delving into the card based RPG genre. Now it appears that they are going down a different route again, and it’s time for a city-builder.

SteamWorld Build is a city builder in which you must build a mining town in order to dig up ancient technology, which in turn will help you escape a dying planet. It is not as simple as it sounds though, as you also must gather resources, help your town’s citizens and also face the monsters that lurk in the mines. Over time your settlement will attract new visitors, but they come with demands. You will need to keep on top of all your daily tasks if you wish to escape impending doom. If you’re interested, prepare to grab your shovel and dig deep, build homes for your workers and keep the town running.

Use resources to keep your mining town thriving

Thunderful calls Steamworld Build a mix between Anno, a real-time strategy game, and Dungeon Keepera dungeon management simulator. The game is also confirmed to be releasing later this year. If you can’t wait for Steamworld Build to be released, you can now download a demo to try it out yourself. Steamworld Build will be heading to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the developers guaranteeing players that the game will be built with accessible controls in mind for both consoles and PC.
