The Borderlands Franchise Has Sold 93 Million Copies

Take-Two Interactive just dropped their latest financial report, and with it comes a monumental update to one of their biggest franchises. They revealed that the looter-shooter Borderlands franchise has sold around 93 million units across all its entries. This is an enormous sales milestone, with the most recent Borderlands 3 being responsible for 22 million of those copies, and Borderlands 2 being 2K’s best-selling game thanks to over 30 million units sold.

The first Borderlands game released back in 2009, selling over 2 million copies by the end of the year. Following on from this, the franchise quickly skyrocketed to new levels of success with 2012’s Borderlands 2, along with a bunch of other releases following including a Telltale Games episodic series, game remasters and 2019’s franchise-record breaking Borderlands 3.

The Borderlands series ranges from looter-shooters to narrative adventures, but all of them are pretty wacky.

We’re only a few months away from the next main entry release with Borderlands 4 set for a September 12 release date. This is actually an earlier release date than was first announced, which we recently reported alongside the reveal of a full Borderlands 4 dedicated State of Play event. That event was received well by fans online, and with 93 million copies of Borderlands games sold so far, we’re sure that Borderlands 4 will be the push needed to cross 100 million.

Are you one of the 93 million Borderlands-owning Vault Hunters, and are you looking forwards to Borderlands 4 releasing this September on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC?
