After facing a second delay at the end of last year, fans became disappointed that they may not see the Xbox exclusive for some time. However after being pushed back to January 28, The Medium‘s release is going ahead with the date now looming.
With that, Bloober Team have released a new 14 minute gameplay preview for the new horror extravaganza. Bloober Team emphasize that you play as a medium, Marianne, who can live in both the real and spirit world. The idea is that nothing is as it seems as you discover and attempt to solve a grim mystery. The Medium‘s released look showcases the different perspectives of the real and spirit world, the unique split screen simultaneous play, the various environments and locations you will visit, and the investigation of clues.
This trailer also gives you the chance to look at cinematic cutscenes to get an idea of what to expect graphically. Furthermore, it gives fans a tease of encounters with the game’s unsettling primary antagonist “The Maw”, voiced by Troy Baker. The gameplay preview features the tense ‘dual’ soundtracks by Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka, renowned for composing in the Silent Hill series.
The Medium draws from classic horror tropes such as an abandoned hotel resort setting, whilst embellishing it with a modern detective and murder mystery theme. This is then tied together with the supernatural dual world premise.
Fans have generally reacted positively to the gameplay preview, with some having already begun drawing comparisons to the Silent Hill and Resident Evil franchises.
The game can currently be pre-ordered on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store for $49.99 with an additional 10% discount. Bloober Team’s The Medium will be released on January 28 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
