Chicory: A Colorful Tale Coming to PS4 and PS5

Today, March 17th, the official PlayStation blog is celebrating all things indie by revealing new indie titles coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 throughout the day. One of the first announced this morning was Chicory, an adorable adventure about returning color to a bleak world and embracing your own inner creativity.

In Chicory, directed by Greg Lobanov, you play as a dog character living in an animal-filled world which has recently lost all its color. Wielding a magic paintbrush, it is your job to return color to the world and help your friends with their tasks and challenges.

In his post for the PlayStation Blog, Lobanov described Chicory as a game which focused on the individual creativity of players and allowed them to express themselves in a variety of ways. Players can use their paintbrush to draw on practically every element of the world surrounding them, designing their own images and patterns on backgrounds and objects surrounding them.

Chicory is primarily an adventure game, with a main objective of re-coloring the world and a number of puzzles and side quests, including taking art classes and delivering mail for your friends around the world. Players, according to Lobanov, will be able to play the game at whatever pace they desire, whether that be progressing immediately through the plot, devoting their time to side quests, or simply drawing on the environment.

The game will feature the ability to draw using the touch pad, as well as the option to flip controls so that left-handed players can draw with their dominant hand. The PS5 version will include compatibility with the console’s Game Help system, providing hints and directions as players progress through Chicory.

Currently, Chicory is scheduled for a Spring 2021 release on both the PS4 and PS5. An official release date has not yet been announced.
