God of War Ragnarok Gets M Rating From ESRB

In what has to be the most unsurprising news of the year, God of War Ragnarök has received a Mature 17+ (M) rating from the ESRB. The rating summary lists blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language as the reason for the rating. Yeah, that definitely sounds like a God of War game to us.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) checks upcoming games for their content, giving them an appropriate age rating to advise parents on video game purchases. Every other entry in the God of War series has received the same M rating from the ESRB, although the reasons listed have changed over time. Earlier entries had sexual content listed on the rating summary, something which 2018’s God of War and God of War Ragnarök have toned down in favor of a darker family story.

With an M rating from the ESRB, we can probably guess how this scene will end.

God of War is an action-adventure game series, so fighting and violence is expected by most gamers who have any knowledge of the franchise. The latest entry with Ragnarök is set to bring about the end of the days, and the recent story trailer definitely captured that feeling of doom. It also showed us a limited edition controller, which looks pretty great as well.
