Grand Theft Auto V Sales Slow For First Time In Nine Years

According to the quarterly financial earnings call from Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto V sales are beginning to slow down, making it the worst quarter since the game launched nine years ago. From July-September 2022, GTA V only sold around one million units. Granted, it’s an impressive number however you look at it, but nevertheless, sales figures have sloped, and there could be a reason for that. Firstly is GTA 6, the long, long-awaited sequel finally in development from Rockstar.

Focus on GTA V could be beginning to wane in favour of the new sequel, but there’s every chance we’ll be waiting a few more years before the sequel arrives. Or perhaps the fanbase’s attention has switched to the Definitive Edition, a remastered selection of some of the earlier GTA instalments, and steered away from GTA V in the process. Whatever the reason, as of August 2022, GTA V had sold close to 170 million units.

GTA V is available on a range of platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Elsewhere, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is currently available across all major platforms. Released in November 2021, the trilogy is a remastered compilation of GTA IIIGTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas.

After all these years, do you still play GTA V, and are you looking forward to the upcoming GTA 6? Let us know in the comments and for all future updates on the Grand Theft Auto franchise and more, stay tuned right here at GameLuster.
