Many in-person gaming events initially scheduled to occur this year have been canceled due to the current global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To fill this gap, IGN has announced that they will be hosting an all-digital event called the “Summer of Gaming” in June. Although official dates have not been released, it is estimated to begin in “early June”.
A number of companies will be partnering with IGN and making presentations as part of this event. Officially announced partners include 2K, Square Enix, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google Stadia, Twitter, Devolver Digital, and THQ Nordic.
Publishers will give presentations discussing upcoming titles and consoles. Pre- and post-discussion will be available for each of these presentations. The “Summer of Gaming” is also planned to feature developer interviews and gameplay demonstrations for upcoming titles. News articles and summaries recapping major announcements will also be published.
IGN also plans to encourage audience participation during the event. Audiences watching the presentations online will be able to both vote for their favorite announcements and even send in their very own reaction videos. Some of those videos may even be broadcast around the world during the event!
Currently, IGN coverage is available in 25 languages across 112 different countries. You can choose your favorite or most convenient platform on which to access it, including desktop, mobile, OTT, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mixer, Twitch, Snapchat Discover, TikTok, and more.
Fans are particularly eager for announcements regarding the next generation of gaming consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both consoles have been heavily teased over the past several months. Speculation regarding possible launch titles for these consoles has also become a popular topic of conversation.
