Marvel’s Avengers Will Receive No New Content After Next Update

Today, Crystal Dynamics revealed that Marvel’s Avengers will be receiving no new content after its 2.8 update on Mar. 31. However, fans have said that this is no surprise as the game has struggled to gain traction since its release in 2020. Although they originally planned to cease development at the end of 2023, it now seems that this has been brought forward. This comes after the news of its lead developer, Brian Waggoner, left the company after a series of racist and ableist Tweets from him surfaced.

Despite no new content being released after the next update, the developers have stated that both single-player and multiplayer will still be accessible after Sept. 30. In a statement posted by Crystal Dynamics, the team thanked fans for all the support and revealed they will be offering free cosmetic content as a way to “thank our community by letting everyone experience the breadth and depth of content in Marvel’s Avengers.”

They go on to say “we know this is disappointing news as everyone in our community has such a connection to these characters and their stories. We’re so, so grateful that you came on this adventure with us. Your excitement for Marvel’s Avengers – from your epic Photo Mod shots, to your threads theorizing who our next Heroes would be, to your Twitch streams – has played a large part in bringing this game to life.”

According to Marvel’s Avengers insider Miller Ross, the game will remain on sale digitally until at least September and Crystal Dynamics will continue to keep the game in a playable state for as long as fans are willing to play it. However, no new content means that the characters who have been teased will now remain unreleased – including She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Shuri and Ironheart.

Since the news broke at 5:30 p.m, ET on Friday, the Marvel’s Avengers official website has faced high traffic leaving people unable to access the news. Despite the news not being a shock to dedicated fans, it will still be sad to see the game go.
