Minecraft’s Steve, Alex, Enderman And Zombie Confirmed For Smash Ultimate

Steve, Alex, Enderman and Zombie from the ever-popular Minecraft, have been announced as the next fighters coming to Nintendo’s all-star hit, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Minecraft cast are the second bunch of characters in the Vol. 2 Fighter Pass, which will also contain a new Minecraft-inspired stage, alongside some music from the game. No release date was given for the fighters.

Steve will fight with a sword and pickaxe, and can also spill lava onto the floor of the stage. But of course, he’ll also be able to do some crafting in fights. The trailer showed off his ability to build a tower of Minecraft blocks, putting him out of harms way – or even trapping other fighters.

As echo fighters, Alex, Enderman and Zombie’s playstyles looks much the same, although we did see Alex’s ability to craft explosives, and detonate them near enemies. Their final smash sees the Minecraft stars send another fighter into a house, only for them to be left to the mercy of some Creepers.

Speaking during the announcement, series creator Masahiro Sakurai discussed the challenges of bringing Minecraft characters to Smash when Nintendo requested it. One of those challenges being ensuring every pre-existing stage could handle having blocks built onto it. Yet he also admitted that these would be “unusual” fighters, due to their crafting and short range.

Because of this unique nature, on October 3, Sakurai will host an addition livestream in which he explains how the characters will work. This will take place just before Minecraft Live.

Smash Ultimate was released back in 2018. Since launch, there has been seven additional fighters join the cast through DLC packs, including Banjo & Kazooie, Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Housesand most recently, Min Min from Arms.

It remains to be seen if Nintendo has anything on the cards for the game’s two year anniversary. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
