Neil Druckmann Confirms Naughty Dog Is Working On New Titles

Neil Druckmann has confirmed that Naughty Dog has several projects in development. “If you tweet at me, asking about a future project, I can’t say anything… Please stay patient.” Druckmann says, adding: “We have several cool things we can’t wait to share with you. As soon as we can, we will!”

Now it’s a question of what Naughty Dog are working on behind the scenes. Rumours of a PS5 update or a factions mode for The Last Of Us Part II are still strong, while a multiplayer mode for The Last Of Us Part II has already been confirmed, after alleged footage of the multiplayer leaked last year, since removed by Sony on grounds of copyright. Plans for an online mode with Part II were scrapped after the studio realized the scale of the sequel’s single-player campaign.

Shortly after the release of The Last Of Us Part II, Druckmann ruled out the possibility of a DLC for the sequel, so there is currently no chance that Naughty Dog’s project is new story content.

Perhaps it’s wishful thinking to hope for Uncharted 5, considering the franchise’s main story appeared to reach an end following the conclusion of A Thief’s End. That being said, Naughty Dog followed up the fourth game with spinoff The Lost Legacy a year later, so there’s every chance a standalone spin-off is in the works.

Bearing in mind The Last Of Us Part II only launched nine months ago, it’s doubtful we’ll be hearing any announcements of Part III, but Jak and Daxter 4 is certainly a contender, keeping in mind that Jak 3 was released back in 2004. The last game in the series was the Jak and Daxter Bundle, released in 2017.

Several senior developers within Naughty Dog have been promoted to new positions since August 2020, and these have been attributed to a new IP in development. Plus, Naughty Dog are advertising job vacancies via their careers page.
