Nintendo Announces Mario Red & Blue Edition Switch

It’s-a time to celebrate Mario! Everyone’s favorite plumber recently turned 35, and Nintendo has lots of things in store for this historic birthday. Recently, they announced the upcoming Switch port of Super Mario 3D World featuring the Bowser’s Fury add-on, which will release in February. Alongside this announcement was one more, which fans did not expect: a version of the Nintendo Switch console honoring the plumber himself and featuring his distinctive color scheme.

Called the “Red & Blue Edition,” this bright red Switch console features a matching red dock and red and blue Joy-Con controllers inspired by Mario’s red cap and blue overalls. This marks the first time that the Switch console itself has been available in any color other than black. In addition, it comes with a blue Joy-Con grip, a screen protector, and a red carrying case with a pattern of caps, gloves and overalls.

The console will also be available as part of several bundles. Two Deluxe Editions will come with a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario 3D All-Stars respectively. Whereas the Mega Pack comes with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a steering wheel controller, a 3D World-themed SteelBook case, a sheet of stickers, and a set of analog stick caps with designs inspired by both Mario and Luigi.

To celebrate the upcoming console and game, Nintendo Switch Online is posing a series of challenges for Mario fans to complete. The first challenge is to collectively defeat Bowser 3.5 million times in the game Super Mario 35, which was also announced as part of the anniversary celebration.

The Red & Blue Edition Nintendo Switch console will release on February 12, 2021, the same day as the 3D World port and the Cat Mario and Cat Peach Amiibo figurines. It will be available for pre-order via both the official Nintendo Web site and select retailers.
