Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Gets New Patch, Promises Future Improvements

The launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been a rough one. Despite the gameplay being showered with praise from fans of the Pokémon series, an abundance of bugs and performance issues has dampened the experience a bit for a lot of players. The first major update for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is here, and along with some new additions and bug fixes, it promises that more performance improvements are in the works.

The 1.1.0 update brings Season 1 of Ranked Battles, a competitive mode in which trainers compete in a series of online battles, ranking up across tiers and unlocking new rewards as they earn points. Ranked Battle Season 1 will be available from Dec. 2 2022 – Jan. 31 2023, and is limited only to Pokémon found in the Paldea Pokédex, with no legendaries or Paradox Pokémon. The patch also fixes some bugs that caused music not to play correctly in Elite Four and Top Champion matches, along with other unspecified bug fixes.

The most important part of the 1.1.0 update notes is found right at the end, when Nintendo addresses the concern and disappointment felt by fans towards Pokémon Scarlet and Violet performance issues. The internet has been ablaze with frustration and memes over just how buggy the games can be at points, so it’s hard to miss it. There’s no word yet on when these future fixes are coming or how far they’ll go, but it’s nice to know they’re actively being worked on by Game Freak and Nintendo. The full section addressing the performance issues reads:

“We are aware that players may encounter issues that affect the games’ performance. Our goal is always to give players a positive experience with our games, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We take the feedback from players seriously and are working on improvements to the games.”
