You should only resort to buying it if you happen to miss the other method of getting the Red9.
The other method is grabbing it for the low, low price of free! While exploring the lake in Chapter 4, you can actually find the Red9 in a chest waiting to be claimed. Simply boat on over to the shipwreck in the center of the lake. Once onboard, head toward the bow and crack open a chest beside the cabin with your favorite handgun inside.
