You might not think Leon is an animal lover based on his interactions with rats, vipers, and insects, but dogs are a different story in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Early previews of the game were quick to point out that a certain furry friend was nowhere to be seen, and some even speculated that a dog-like corpse found near where Leon saved the dog in the original meant it couldn’t be saved this time around.
Killing off the only friendly dog in Resident Evil 4 Remake would be far too cruel, so thankfully there is a way to do it. If you’re not a heartless monster and want to save the dog, you’re the one who will earn a nice treat. Our helpful guide will teach you how to do just that!
How To Save The Dog In Resident Evil 4 Remake
Don’t get too concerned when you reach the point in Resident Evil 4 Remake where you would have originally found the poor pup stuck in a bear trap. This time around, the dog shows up later, once you start Chapter 3 and are leaving the Village Chief’s Manor. When you get outside, you will hear the sad whimpering of the trapped animal. Backtrack around the house to find your old pal, once again stuck in a bear trap.
There’s really no choice in the matter: you can either go and save the helpless doggo, or be branded as the cruelest protagonist ever. Once you do set the pup free, it will give you a small look of appreciation before running off into the wild. Don’t worry, he’ll be back.
The dog returns in the same way it did in the original version. When you’re fighting El Gigante, the dog will make a triumphant appearance and help you bring down the massive beast as a way of paying you back. If you left the dog to suffer or missed it, then you’re on your own for the fight.
Were you glad to see the dog make a return in Resident Evil 4 Remake? The extra help against El Gigante is certainly appreciated, even if it isn’t as overpowered as an egg is against Salazar. Let us know your favorite dogs in videogames in the comments!
