We Were Here Forever Announced for Next Gen Consoles

Ongoing co-op multiplayer puzzle series We Were Here is getting a new entry later this year, confirms developer Total Mayhem Games. Entitled We Were Here Forever, the game is the fourth in the series which began with 2017 PC title We Were Here. It is currently scheduled for a late 2021 release, but no official date has been announced.

We Were Here tells the story of a pair of explorers in Antarctica who must investigate a series of bizarre locations and solve puzzles together. The signature twist of the We Were Here series is that the players are almost never exploring the same location and all puzzles are asymmetrical, meaning that they must verbally work together in order to find clues and complete objectives.

We Were Here Forever is currently planned to release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be the first We Were Here title specifically tailored to next-generation consoles. Total Mayhem confirms that the game will feature an updated user interface, a number of quality-of-life based gameplay improvements, and new puzzles. Players will be able to explore new, never-before-seen areas of recurring location Castle Rock. Other locations confirmed to feature in We Were Here Forever include a graveyard and the King’s Keep.

The We Were Here series began as a PC exclusive in 2017, with the original We Were Here debuting for Steam. We Were Here Too followed in 2018 and then We Were Here Together in 2019, both also for Steam. 2020 was the first year since the series began that didn’t feature a We Were Here title release, primarily due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Fans are excited to see the series returning in 2021.

The first trailer for We Were Here Forever doesn’t reveal much, but it does promise plenty of scares to come by ending on a creepy hanging marionette wearing a jester-like costume – a sinister, mysterious entity which has menaced the players in previous titles.

All three currently released We Were Here titles are available for both Steam and the Xbox One. They are also available for PlayStation 4 bundled together as the “We Were Here Series.”
