Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide: How To Craft And Use Training Manuals

One of the most fun elements of life simulator Disney Dreamlight Valley is the ability to hang out with characters from your favorite Disney and Pixar films. Once a character has moved into Dreamlight Valley and reached Level 2 Friendship, you can choose to Hang Out with the character – and, don’t worry, as long as they aren’t asleep, they’ll always say yes! Your villagers can then help you out with various tasks around the Valley. Even villains like The Lion King’s Scar and Tangled’s Mother Gothel are happy to help out!

While they’re hanging out with you, each villager can help you with one of the various tasks you can perform around the Valley: foraging for wild foods, harvesting vegetables, mining for gemstones and ores, fishing, and digging up soil and buried treasures. You can assign one of these Talents to each villager once they reach Friendship Level 2. Previously, a villager’s Talent could not be changed once it had been selected, leading to some players feeling frustrated when they didn’t have enough Gardeners to tend to their expansive pumpkin fields or they felt like Goofy didn’t fit as a Digger or Forager when he so often expresses his love of fishing.

In its most recent update – which also added new characters Olaf from Frozen and Mirabel from Encanto in addition to a ton of new craft-able and purchasable items – Disney Dreamlight Valley remedied this frequent fan complaint by adding Training Manuals, a craftable item that allows players to change a villager’s Talent. This guide covers how to craft Training Manuals for each of the game’s Talents and how to give them to Valley residents to provide them with a new Talent.

Gathering Dreamlight

Manual8

All Training Manuals require 5,000 Dreamlight to craft. Dreamlight is earned by completing various tasks around the Valley. Almost everything can potentially earn you Dreamlight, from fishing to cooking recipes to spending time with villagers and clearing Night Thorns. To quickly earn Dreamlight, you should check the rotating Daily Tasks, which are usually simple quests such as harvesting small amounts of various ingredients, changing your outfit, taking photos, or talking to villagers.

You can also obtain Dreamlight by breaking down Dream Shards at a Craft Table. Dream Shards are found throughout the Valley, most commonly by Digging up glowing cracks in the ground.

In addition to 5,000 Dreamlight, each of the Training Manuals requires a mix of items obtained using that skill. Keep in mind that hanging out with a villager with that Talent is always recommended while gathering these materials, as it lets you obtain more of them more quickly.

How to Craft a Digging Training Manual

Manual6

Digging refers to using the Royal Shovel to dig up holes or glowing cracks in the ground. Digging is used to harvest useful crafting materials such as soil and sand, and to reveal hidden Night Shards, Dream Shards and other underground treasures.

To craft a Digging Training Manual, the following ingredients are required:

  • 5,000 Dreamlight
  • 20 Pebbles
  • 20 Sand
  • 30 Soil

Soil can be gathered by Digging in any Biome other than Dazzle Beach. Sand can be gathered by Digging in Dazzle Beach. Pebbles can be gathered by Digging in Dazzle Beach, Forest of Valor, Sunlit Plateau, and Forgotten Lands. It may be slightly more likely to spawn in Forest of Valor due to fewer digging materials being available there.

Once you have obtained these ingredients, you can craft a Digging Training Manual at any Crafting Table in the Valley.

How to Craft a Fishing Training Manual

Manual4

Fishing involves using a Fishing Rod (given by Goofy) to catch fish and other water-dwelling creatures in the rivers, lakes, and oceans of Dreamlight Valley. Rarer fish are caught by fishing where white, blue, or gold bubbles appear in the water. Fish can be sold, often for a large amount of Gold, and can also be eaten raw to restore energy or used to cook various delicious dishes.

To craft a Fishing Training Manual, the following ingredients are required:

  • 5,000 Dreamlight
  • 2 Swordfish
  • 5 Bream
  • 10 Herring

Bream can be fished up from white and blue bubbles in the Peaceful Meadow biome. Herring can be fished up from white bubbles in Dazzle Beach and the Glade of Trust. Swordfish can be fished up from gold bubbles in Dazzle Beach. None of these fish require a specific weather or time of day to spawn.

Once you have obtained these ingredients, you can craft a Fishing Training Manual at any Crafting Table in the Valley.

How to Craft a Foraging Training Manual

Manual7

Foraging involves harvesting wild fruits from bushes and trees in the game’s various Biomes, as well as picking up wild spices found growing in the ground. Foraged ingredients can be eaten raw to restore energy, gifted to villagers, or added to a variety of tasty recipes.

To craft a Foraging Training Manual, the following ingredients are required:

  • 5,000 Dreamlight
  • 30 Bananas
  • 20 Blueberries
  • 10 Basil

Bananas can be picked from trees in the Peaceful Meadow or Dazzle Beach. Blueberries can be picked from bushes in Dazzle Beach and the Forest of Valor. Basil can be picked from sprouting plants on the ground in the Peaceful Meadow.

Once you have obtained these ingredients, you can craft a Foraging Training Manual at any Crafting Table in the Valley.

How to Craft a Gardening Training Manual

Manual3

Gardening involves planting various vegetables in the ground (specifically in holes dug up using your Royal Shovel), watering them with your Royal Watering Can, and eventually harvesting them when they are ready. Gardened ingredients can be eaten raw, given to villagers, sold for money, or combined with other foods in tasty recipes. Gardening is also the best way to quickly earn money in Disney Dreamlight Valley, as some crops – particularly pumpkins – sell for large amounts of gold.

To craft a Gardening Training Manual, the following ingredients are required:

  • 5,000 Dreamlight
  • 40 Corn
  • 60 Tomato
  • 20 Carrots

Carrot seeds can be purchased from Goofy’s Stall in the Peaceful Meadow. They take approximately 15 minutes to grow and yield one carrot per seed. Tomato seeds can be purchased from Goofy’s Stall in Dazzle Beach. They take approximately 25 minutes to grow and yield three tomatoes per seed. Corn seeds can be purchased from Goofy’s Stall in Dazzle Beach. They take approximately 12 minutes to grow and yield two cobs of corn per seed. All three vegetables can be planted and grown in any Biome, but will grow slightly faster if planted in the same Biome as the seeds were purchased.

Once you have obtained these ingredients, you can craft a Gardening Training Manual at any Crafting Table in the Valley.

How to Craft a Mining Training Manual

Manual2

Mining involves using your Royal Pickaxe to break chunks of rock found in every Biome of Dreamlight Valley. These rocks spawn everything from the common crafting material stone, to ores that can be forged into ingots, to rare gemstones that can be sold for money, gifted to villagers, or crafted into stylish furniture for decorating your home and the rest of the Valley.

To craft a Mining Training Manual, the following ingredients are required:

  • 5,000 Dreamlight
  • 2 Topaz
  • 2 Aquamarine
  • 2 Peridot

Aquamarine can be mined from rocks in Dazzle Beach and Forest of Valor. Peridot can be mined from rocks in Dazzle Beach and Peaceful Meadow. Topaz can be mined from rocks in the Plaza. Keep in mind that the “Shiny” variants of each gemstone do NOT count – you must use the normal variations of each gemstone to craft this manual!

Once you have obtained these ingredients, you can craft a Mining Training Manual at any Crafting Table in the Valley.

Give the Training Manual to a Character

Door4

Once you have crafted the necessary Training Manual, you can give it to a character as a gift. Gifting a Manual to a character is easy – simply talk to them and then select the “I have something to give you” option. Once you have given them the Manual, their Talent will immediately change to the one represented by the Manual.

However, there is one caveat: you must reach maximum Friendship Level (Level 10) with a villager before you can successfully gift them a Training Manual. So keep in mind that, while the new update does allow you to change villagers’ Talents as often as you want, you should still carefully consider the first Talent you assign them, as they will be stuck with it until you have maximized their Friendship Level, which requires completing a series of Friendship Quests and can often take a significant amount of time.
