Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide: How To Unlock Mirabel

Life simulator Disney Dreamlight Valley recently had a major update, which continued the game’s main plot, added a ton of new items – including costumes and furniture celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary – fixed several bugs, and much more. One of the many updates added to the game in the latest patch was the addition of a brand-new resident who you can invite to move to the Valley: Mirabel Madrigal, the main character of the recent Disney hit Encanto.

This guide will cover how to complete the quest “The Golden Doorknob” and invite Mirabel (and her enchanted house, Mini-Casita!) to move in to Dreamlight Valley. It may be forbidden to talk about Bruno, but we can at least talk about how to get this spunky Encanto heroine to join your team of Disney characters and become your newest friend!

Find the Golden Doorknob

Like previous Dreamlight Valley resident Stitch, Mirabel’s quest is begun by finding an item that will spawn somewhere in the Valley. However, unlike Stitch, it’s not a slobber-covered sock this time. Rather, the item in question is the Golden Doorknob belonging to Casita, the Madrigal family’s enchanted house.

The Golden Doorknob will spawn in a random location on the ground somewhere in the Peaceful Meadow biome. You may have to search the Meadow thoroughly to find it. However, it will be surrounded by sparkles to help you locate it. If you cannot find the Golden Doorknob, you may wish to try saving and reopening your game.

Once you have located the Doorknob, bring it to Merlin. He will explain that it belongs to Mirabel and that her home, the Mini-Casita, is keeping her safe outside of the Valley to protect her from the dangerous magic going on. In order to convince Mini-Casita that it is safe to return Mirabel to the Valley, you will need to perform various friendly activities with other Dreamlight Valley residents.

Complete Friendship Tasks With Villagers

In order to convince Mini-Casita, you will have to:

  • Take photos with 3 different villagers
  • Give 2 different villagers their Favorite Gifts
  • Start Daily Discussions with 2 different Villagers

To take a photo, simply locate a villager and switch to the Camera in your Royal Tools menu. As long as villagers are close enough when you take the photo, they will automatically enter the photo frame and pose. You can also choose different filters, poses, and other fun options from the in-game photo menu before taking the photo. Keep in mind that the quest may require three separate photos – it is possible that one photo with multiple villagers may not trigger quest completion.

Favorite Gifts change every day. Each villager has three Favorite Gifts each day. These can be viewed under “Characters” in the “Collection” tab of the in-game menu. Look for Favorite Gifts that are easy to obtain such as flowers, gemstones, commonly caught fish, harvestable spices and vegetables, or simple dishes that you can cook with one or two ingredients. To give a gift to a villager, simply talk to them and select “I have something to give you” from the options that appear. Make sure that you reach this step of “The Golden Doorknob” quest before giving any Gifts, as Gifts given before taking the quest will not count towards its completion.

Daily Discussions also reset every day. The first time you talk to a villager every day, they will have a question you can ask them or a conversation prompt to engage with. Make sure that you reach this step of “The Golden Doorknob” quest before having the two Daily Discussions – Discussions held before you take the quest will not count towards its completion.

It Takes Dreamlight to Finish Convincing Mini-Casita

Once you have completed the three tasks listed above, return to Merlin to report your progress. Merlin will tell you that Mini-Casita is almost convinced to return Mirabel to the Valley, but it needs some Dreamlight to be able to manifest properly. Specifically, you will need 500 Dreamlight to complete the next step of this quest.

If you do not have 500 Dreamlight, you can quickly earn it by completing daily tasks. Check the Dreamlight tab in the in-game menu to see what tasks are available for you. Almost everything you do in the Valley earns you Dreamlight, from harvesting vegetables to fishing to befriending Villagers and clearing out dangerous Night Thorns, so you will likely not have a hard time earning 500 Dreamlight quickly. If you really need some extra Dreamlight, you can also visit a Crafting Table and craft it using Dream Shards, which are found by clearing Night Thorns and sometimes randomly encountered when exploring the Valley.

Build Mini-Casita and Welcome Mirabel

Finally, after receiving the 500 Dreamlight, Merlin will confirm that Mirabel is ready to move back to the Valley. All that is left is to place her home, Mini-Casita, wherever you like in the Valley. Mini-Casita, despite its name, is one of the largest houses currently in the game, so you will need a fairly large area of open space to place it successfully. While this magical house can go anywhere you want, some great Biome options with plenty of the necessary space include the Peaceful Meadow, Dazzle Beach, the Sunlit Plateau, and the Frosted Heights.

Once you have decided where you want Mini-Casita to go, simply click on the chosen area to build Mirabel’s magical home. Then, you will complete the “Golden Doorknob” quest, and Mirabel will officially move into Dreamlight Valley! As soon as she arrives, you can start building Friendship with her to unlock her Friendship quest line and unlock cool Encanto-themed items, including the “Not-Special Special” firework basket and your own copy of Mirabel’s iconic hand-embroidered skirt!

Currently, Mirabel is the only Encanto character available to unlock in Disney Dreamlight Valley. However, in the film, Casita is home to the entire Madrigal family, so fans are hopeful that Mini-Casita will do the same and other members of the magical Madrigals will be available in the life simulator soon.
