Nintendo Pursuing Legal Activity Against Tears Of The Kingdom Art Book Leaker

After The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom art book was leaked back in February, it has been revealed that Nintendo are now hunting down the culprit.

According to Torrentfreak, Nintendo are actively searching for the culprit who leaked the art book, with the aim of following through with legal action against the individual. This 200-page art book revealed details of new characters, enemies and locations all before the game’s full release on May 12.

This news was reported by Eurogamer back in February, but since then it has been revealed that Nintendo are aware of this leak and have a “specific internet user in mind as the potential leaker.” This specific user may be part of a Discord channel named “Tears of the Kingdom Official Discord Server” and it is there Nintendo of America sent a DMCA notice to. This notice stated the images of the art book were “from Nintendo’s copyright-protected and unreleased special edition art book for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom video game in violation of Nintendo’s rights.”

The art book is part of the Tears of the Kingdom Collector’s Edition set.

Despite the initial images being removed, news broke this week on April 4 that Nintendo of America filed an application for a DMCA subpoena at a district court in California. In this application, they sent details of the Discord channel and specific Discord user who is “responsible for posting infringing content.” You can find the full subpoena here.

With the case potentially being taken to court, Nintendo are hoping to see legal action taken against the leaker. As well as being faced with whatever punishment could potentially come from the judge, it is their hope that this will stop other leakers posting future infringing content. We will keep up with this case as it develops.
