Resident Evil 4 Remake: Mercenaries Mode Tips

You may think you’re a master of Resident Evil 4 Remake if you’ve beaten the final boss Saddler, maybe tried out new game plus, and even played again on Professional difficulty, but that won’t totally prepare you for Mercenaries Mode. Unlike the base game where you’re the one being hunted, this time around you take on the role of the predator.

Mercenaries Mode is a much more arcade-like experience than the main game (except for the Shooting Range). This mode is all about racking up as many kills as possible, chaining combos, and setting a sweet, sweet high score that all your friends will be jealous of. And, with these tips, that glory can be yours!

Mercenaries Mode ranks you on a scale that goes: A, S, S+, and S++ at the top, with each requiring 100,000, 200,000, 500,000, and 1,000,000 points or more to get respectively. You only have two minutes by default on each stage, but you can, and must, earn extra time if you want to hit those higher ranks. Additionally, if you’re a zombie-killing master and take out all 150 enemies, the game will end. Or, if you’re a zombie-killing noob and die, the game will also obviously end. Go for the former, not the latter.

Our first tip is to prioritize extending your time. It doesn’t matter if you can land a perfect headshot every time if you run out of time before you run out of heads to shoot. Here are all the ways you can extend your time:

Destroy Green Orbs: +30-90 seconds

Defeat strong enemies: +20-30 seconds

Defeat enemies with your knife: +4 seconds

Defeat enemies with a melee attack: +2 seconds

Defeat enemies with a headshot: +2 seconds

Defeat enemies using Mayhem Mode: +2 seconds

Defeat Enemies using an explosion: +1 second

Obviously, Green Orbs are the priority here, but they do have random spawn locations on each map so your best bet is to keep moving while fighting and take them out as you find them.

Next, keep your combo alive! If you keep killing enemies in quick succession, your combo will go up. Once it hits 10, you will earn 1.1x XP, then 1.2x at 25, 1.3x at 50, 1.4x at 70, and max out at 1.5x at 100 kills. Beyond actually getting yourself killed, do whatever you can to keep that combo rolling!

Finally, it’s time for an egg hunt! Every stage has at least one chicken somewhere inside it. If you spot it, put your personal feelings aside and put it down. If you feel bad about it, perhaps the Golden Egg it drops, worth a staggering 50,000 points alone, may ease the pain.

Besides that, experiment with all the new characters to find your favorite! Leon’s obviously a solid choice, but you can also unlock Luis, Krauser, and the mysterious Hunk too! Let us know your best scores in the comments below!
