Gameplay footage and details of the entire plot from The Last Of Us Part 2 have been leaked online. As of yet, Naughty Dog have not commented on what led to this devastating leak, or its validity.
This article will not contain any links or information regarding the leaks. Plus, for those who want to remain spoiler-free until The Last Of Us Part 2’s eventual release date, it’s advised that you steer clear of any places revealing them (such as Resetera) and mute anything to do with the game on sites such as Twitter.
This is a massive blow for the developers, whose long-awaited, and a highly anticipated sequel was recently delayed indefinitely due to COVID-19. Cutscenes, level lists, and a full plot have been leaked, which is particularly devastating for such a story heavy game, after fans have waited seven years for a sequel.
The footage was swiftly pulled down from YouTube by Sony, but this hasn’t prevented the problem entirely. Spoiler breakdowns are still live and circulating online. Since the indefinite delay to The Last Of Us Part 2, no update has been provided by Sony or the developers on a new release date.
Recently, co-creator of The Last Of Us HBO series, Neil Druckmann, announced the first characters confirmed for the planned TV adaptation. Druckmann is working with Craig Mazin, the creator of Chernobyl, to turn the post-pandemic title into a TV series, a team-up that has inspired some confidence.
The shortlist includes notable major characters from The Last Of Us. Druckmann posted while quote-tweeting an HBO post of International Women’s Day: “And now you have Ellie, Riley, Tess, Marlene, Maria, [redacted], and a few others!”
The redacted name has received particular attention. Given it’s a four-letter name, attention, quite naturally, turns to Joel. But, let’s not forget, there’s also Ellie’s new love interest Dina, seen in the trailers for The Last Of Us 2.
Perhaps, the redacted name refers to a character from The Last Of Us Part 2. If this turns out to be true, the TV adaptation could reveal material from the forthcoming sequel.
